I wish I could spend most of my life shopping for fabric and playing with swatches. There is something about connecting to the starting point of a garment that really gets me going. I can imagine the fabric is so many different ways. Because I strive for zero waste, I try to conceptualize the garment on paper before draping to minimize mistakes. It's inevitable, though, for something to go awry but I enjoy the process either way.
One of my favorite parts of designing Tabii Just is exploring the fabrics from Preview Textiles. Every once in a while, I pay Laura, one of my favorite ladies, a visit. I shop from Preview's excess fabric room. That's where they keep all the excess stock and off-cuts. This is where I find the gems. Maybe someone ordered a certain color and the mill printed the wrong color. Or maybe they ordered 200 yards and the mill send 250. I peruse all these excess yardage and find the special ones that I think work with the Tabii Just aesethetic. I take waste and make it beautiful again. It's one of my favorite activities to do.
